The 2023 Houston Astros season has been somewhat of a whirlwind so far. With tons of players going on the injured list, the lineup not being super explosive as of yet, and the pitching staff not being as sharp as we are used to, it seems as if the sky is falling for Astros fans. News flash, it’s not.
This lineup is far too good to not figure it out, and the Houston Astros have a knack for finding diamonds in the rough when it comes to their pitching staff. Astros fans, R-E-L-A-X, it’s only May. It’s going to be just fine.
This weekend the Astros are travelling to the South Side of Chicago to face off against the White Sox. Chicago is 13-26 and seem to be a prime target as sellers at the trade deadline come this summer. While Chicago got to Houston during the first series of the season, they seem to have fallen off a cliff with no end in sight.
They still have elite starting pitching, but something is off with that organization and it puzzles me. The White Sox will be throwing Michael Kopech, Dylan Cease, and Lucas Giolito during this series against the Astros. Definitely not something super exciting for opposing batters, but the Astros lineup is as good as anyone’s in baseball.
The Astros were thinking they were getting Chas McCormick, Michael Brantley, and Jose Altuve back in the lineup super soon, but that’s no longer the case. McCormick came back too soon, Brantley’s injury appears to be a mystery, and Altuve still needs a couple more weeks to get back.

The Astros had been somewhat struggling in the lineup, so those guys coming back was the light at the end of the tunnel. Now, the guys will have to figure it out for a few more weeks before reinforcements come in.
The starting pitching for the Astros against the White Sox is going to be J.P. France and his wonderful mustache, Brandon Bielak, and Hunter Brown. After what Framber Valdez and Cristian Javier just did to the Anaheim Angels, maybe that’ll rile the rest of the staff up and we see the stuff we’re used to seeing as Astros fans.
