The Silver Boot rivalry is back in action this weekend as the Houston Astros are taking on the Texas Rangers in Houston. The Silver Boot has been in the possession of the Astros for a number of seasons now, and the Texas Rangers have made a number of upgrades (really they’re just changes because the results have roughly stayed the same) to their team over the last two offseasons. The Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers series preview for April 14-16 seems like it’s going to be much more of the same.
While the standings show that the Rangers are ahead of the Astros, it is still the month of April. Texas will also be down a star shortstop in Corey Seager since he went down with an injury in the last week. The roster has upgraded with the addition of some pitching, including Jacob DeGrom, however, it doesn’t appear to be enough to be in the conversation for winning the division.
This will be the first three game set between the teams of Texas and the pitching matchups will look a little bit like this:
Friday, game one: Luis Garcia vs. Martín Pérez
Saturday, game two: Hunter Brown vs. Jon Gray
Sunday, game three: Framber Valdez vs. Andrew Heaney
Since the Astros finally won a series this season against the Pittsburgh Pirates, I expect them to turn the corner and see constant success as we are accustomed to. The offense with Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, and Chas McCormick are firing on all cylinders now. In addition to the meat of the lineup you have José Abreu and Mauricio Dubón hitting well, so the offense shouldn’t be a concern this weekend without having to face DeGrom.

The Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers series preview April 14-16 shows that the Astros are the superior team on paper, but it’s still April, so the Astros could do some April things in Houston this weekend. I expect the Astros to win the series and get the Silver Boot started on the right path.
