Friday night, Framber Valdez took the bump and continued on doing what Framber does. Quality start after quality start after quality start. It’s the standard for the Astros’ Ace, and he gave the team his best that night. He got through seven innings, but gave up three runs on a night where the offense couldn’t capitalize. The Astros dropped game one, 3-1, after Jeremy Peña put up the only run on a solo homer.
Game two, Saturday evening was one that we’d all like to forget. The Phillies pounced on the Astros’ pitching staff and essentially never let up. Peña once again was the only run scored for Houston with another solo homer. The Astros dropped game two 6-1, and ultimately lost the series, but there was one game left.
Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN was the broadcast for the final game of the series, and thankfully the Astros offense put up more than just a solo home run. José Abreu got the scoring started in the first inning when he grounded into a double play when the bases were loaded. Peña scored, and that’s all the Astros could get unfortunately.
The Phillies quickly tied the game in the second inning, but after Martín Maldonado doubled in David Hensley, the Astros never gave up the lead. Jake Meyers added a solo homer in the fourth, and Kyle Tucker had a little single bloop to score the Astros fourth run of the game.
