After dropping the series to the Phillies, the Astros are now two games back of the Texas Rangers for the top spot in the AL West. The Giants have taken another step back and are currently fourth in the NL West standings and are five games under .500.
On paper, you would see that the Astros are the better team, and should end up in the winning column this series. It’s officially May, so the Astros can get out of the April funk that has always been there during the Golden Age and start dominating teams like we saw them do against the Blue Jays, Braves, and Rays in recent weeks.
The pitching matchups will look a little something like this:
Monday: Luis Garcia vs. Ross Stripling
Tuesday: Hunter Brown vs. Anthony DeSclafani
Wednesday: Framber Valdez vs. Logan Webb
With Yordan Alvarez back in the lineup, and Michael Brantley and Jose Altuve looming around getting ready to be inserted back into the lineup, the Astros seem to be on the path to greatness once again. The lineup has been fine as of recent, but adding professional hitters like Brantley and Altuve into this one makes it deadly.
The Astros have a leg up on the Giants, but it’s baseball, you never know what could happen.
