The Houston Astros have lost their second series in a row after dropping Wednesday’s afternoon matchup against the San Francisco Giants. This series has unfortunately put José Urquidy and Luis Garcia on the IL as the starting rotation has started to wear thin. The Houston Astros vs. San Francisco Giants series recap May 1-3 isn’t going to be the most fun series recap we have this season.

As you can see on Apollo’s health report presented by Sweetgreen, the injuries are starting to add up, especially within the starting rotation. Luckily we’ve seen this happen before with the 2021 team, and the Astros typically have homegrown arms in the waiting ready to contribute in the big leagues.
Monday’s game against the Giants was the Mauricio Dubón game. He came out against his former team and wanted to make sure they knew what they were missing. He was a major part of each of the first four runs scored by the Astros as they marched onto a 7-3 victory in game one of this series.

In game two of this series, Hunter Brown didn’t have his best command on the mound and gave up two ER, which happened to be the only two runs scored in the game by either team. The Astros could only muster up three hits, and never really threatened to knot the game up. The series was tied at one game a piece headed into the Wednesday afternoon rubber match.
Wednesday’s game looked a whole lot like Tuesday’s game against the Giants. Framber Valdez looked good, but got a bit frustrated in the sixth inning, and the Giants ended up scoring two runs on him in his last inning. It was another quality start to add to his total this season. Framber is the quality start king, we all know that.
In the end, the only runs the Astros were able to get on the board were from Alex Bregman’s eighth inning two-run homer which got the Stros within one run headed into the ninth inning. The Giants took the series finale 4-2 and went home with a series win, as the Astros are now on a West Coast road trip headed to Seattle for the weekend.
