The Astros have dropped two series in a row, and now unfortunately have the injury bug in the starting rotation. Not necessarily a recipe for success, but this team has been resilient in all of these situations over the last six seasons. In the playoffs last season, the Astros and Mariners had one of the closest sweeps of all time. Each game was a nailbiter. One ended in a walk-off homer from Yordan Alvarez, another took a go ahead homer in the 8th inning, and the third win from the Astros took a full 18 innings to complete the sweep. The rivalry was born, but Seattle wasn’t a problem just yet.
The Astros called up pitcher, J.P. France to the majors due to the injuries that Luis Garcia and José Urquidy just came down with. The starting rotation was starting to thin out so they had to make a move. I thought that they might bring up Forrest Whitley first, but France seems like the right move.
Cristian Javier will take the bump Friday night as he faces off against Luis Castillo. Other than that, the rest of the rotation will be TBA as the team starts to navigate injuries within the starting rotation. I have full faith in the organization to make something from nothing with another pitcher that no one ever saw coming. Maybe J.P. France is that guy.
The lineup hasn’t been producing like we all thought they might, but it’s possible that we see Michael Brantley join the club on this West Coast road trip. This Mariners series won’t be the easiest, especially due to injuries, but they’re still the Astros and defending World Series champions, you can never count them out.
