I don’t care what happens in 2027. Jim Crane is the best owner in all of sports. As we all expected, the mans is loyal to the soil: Justin Verlander is an Astro again.

Bob Nightengale broke the news first that the JV trade back to the Astros was completed. Houston sent the New York Mets prospects Drew Gilbert and Ryan Clifford which were the number 1 and 2 prospects in the Astros organization. It’s a hefty price to pay until you realize that Justin Verlander is free for the rest of this season, and essentially only $17M per season for the next two.
The Mets are sending the Astros a total of $54M if Verlander surpasses the 140 innings pitched mark in 2024. The Astros add another ace to their rotation and are in prime position to steal the AL West title once again.

Jim Crane has done everything you could ever want out of your favorite team’s owner. He gave his blessing to tear down the organization to nothing in order to gain major assets and build the team up organically.
He then allowed the GM’s to send out prized prospects for major trades in order to win. Crane has continued to shell out millions upon millions of dollars to keep the core together in order to keep winning championships. I love Jim Crane.
Loyal to the soil: Justin Verlander is an Astro again. Welcome back to the H, king.
