Year to date: 1-2 (-1.1 Units)
Not the start we wanted, but we are back with more picks.
Northern Illinois +8.5 at Boston College
Northern Illinois has a returning veteran at the helm in Rocky Lombardi, and the Huskies have a realistic chance to win the MAC. Boston College on the other hand has been down, and it doesn’t look great on either side of the ball. Look for NIU to make this a game. Huskies with the points is the play.
Fresno State +4 at Purdue
Not enough people are talking about Fresno State in the Mountain West. Yes, they lost a generational talent in Jake Haener but Mickey Keene transfers in from UCF and can help stabilize the offense. The defense returns a core group of guys, and the interior line should improve which was a weaknesses in 2022. Purdue has new faces everywhere. First year head coach Ryan Walters worked the portal hard but the Boilermakers aren’t their yet. Bulldogs cover, and might win outright.
UTSA -1 at Houston and Over 60
Houston is a home underdog?! Yes, and with good reason. UTSA is a favorite chance to win the AAC. They return Frank Harris, and the majority of that dynamic Roadrunner offense. Houston will be at the bottom of the Big 12 and I anticipate them to start slow. I like UTSA to cover a small spread on the road. In addition, Dana Holgerson will have some tricks to put up points, and for that I also like the over.
Texas Tech -14 at Wyoming
It’s not every day you see an FBS team travel to the Mountain West. The Red Raiders anticipate a Big 12 title run, and they kick off the season in Laramie, Wyoming. Texas Tech is too talented to let the elevation get to them. Red Raiders cover.
