Week 2: The Houston Texans Fall to the Indianapolis Colts – The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

Week 2 of the NFL season has been recorded and it is already going by way too fast. It should really slow down because the rest of the year outside of football season sucks. Anywho, the Houston Texans once again played and once again lost. The Colts came to town and took care of business 31-20. This time the game ended in a completely different fashion for the Texans. Offense: solid. Defense: not solid.

Regardless, there are some noteworthy things to talk about. At least to me. Let’s jump in.

The Good

How do I not type “C.J. Stroud” over and over again like Jack Torrance from The Shining? Stroud doubt should be tossed even further to the side because he absolutely showed out. Going 30/47 for 384 yards and 2 touchdowns with a 103.5 QB rating. Those numbers jump right at you for a rookie starting only his second pro game. He continually made strong throws with great accuracy and anticipation. This time cutting down his mistakes from last week. Stroud made this great impression behind a great value (respectfully) offensive line with no Laremy Tunsil. Overall, it was an outstanding showing from C.J.

On top of that, receivers showed out. Nico Collins erupted with 7 receptions for 146 yards and hauling in a touchdown. He looked like a DAWG. Robert Woods also provided another solid outing with 74 yards. Along with those performances, Tank Dell broke out with 7 receptions for 72 yards and his first career NFL tuddy.

Overall, the offense made an enormous jump from Week 1 and really put in some work.

The Bad

As for the defense, they did not get much better from Week 1. They definitely took a step back in my eyes although most of it is not their fault. They allowed 31 points to the Colts after holding the Baltimore Ravens to 25. This week, it was the lack of playmaking on the defensive side that really hindered the Texans. Forcing no turnovers and allowing the Colts convert 50% of their 3rd downs is tough.

Though Bobby Slowik called a better game this week, he still needs to figure out how to utilize tight ends and salvage a run game. Stroud was really doing the damn thing with those problems.

These problems do not worry me long term. If they did, I would turn crazy. I would like to see them improved upon throughout the season though.

Also, that missed FG sucked out the little life we had left. That was tough.

The Ugly

Holy fucking shit. Injuries suck, man.

In no way am I putting this loss on injuries. But fuck it, I might. 75% of the team captains didn’t play due to injuries. That sucks! I really hope those guys get the rest they need and come back stronger because this team will be so fun healthy.

Also. Hey, fans. Can we stop fighting in the concourse? We are 0-2. Drink a tequila sprite and fucking chill, dude.

0-2 fucking sucks for sure. Tons to be happy about though. Knowing that this team will be a lot better when healthier is kinda relieving. I hope C.J. and the receivers can continue this progress because they appear to be building a fun, talented group.

I fully expect Defense to bounce back with Jimmie Ward and Jalen Pitre’s return. In addition, offensive line getting healthy will be huge for Stroud and the offense.

Again, fuck injuries because these guys are getting robbed. That’s all. Week 3 will be a divisional match-up against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It will be interesting to see who gets healthy and who continues their success.

Watch Football.
