Winners
Ole Miss
Lane Kiffin gets a signature win at home in Oxford in possibly the most entertaining game of the year. Ole Miss’s offense produced 706 yards of total offense and got that last stop they desperately sought. Defense is a concern but a big win in the Kiffin era.
Kentucky
The Wildcats are 5-0 after a convincing win over the Florida Gators. Mark Stoops continues to rely heavily on the running game behind Ray Davis, but Devin Leary looks to be an upgrade from Will Levis. Cats are undefeated going into Athens for a huge test this weekend.
West Virginia
West Virginia fan’s woke up on Sunday pleasantly surprised with their Mountaineers being 4-1. It’s not pretty but with a heavy dose of CJ Donaldson, and a stout defensive line WVU has emerged as a Big12 dark horse early in the season. Neal Brown has cooled off his seat in the process.
Losers
LSU’s Defense
The Bayou Bengals are supposed to have a swarming secondary and a relentless pass rush. However, under Brian Kelly, it’s been subpar to put it lightly. LSU gave up 55 points on 706 yards of total offense. The Tiger offense is one of the best in the country but if they want to finish in the top ten then they need to make adjustments on the defensive side of the ball.
Trent Dilfer
In case you weren’t aware former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer was hired by UAB after Bill Clark retired in the summer of 2022. The Blazers are 1-4, but what is hurting Dilfer’s reputation the most is his antics. Before he was hired he was caught grabbing a player and getting in their face during a high school game, and now he went completely medieval on an assistant on the sidelines against Tulane. We have seen coaches lose it on assistants before but Dilfer has been a coach for 4 years, with two of those being in high school. You need the respect as a coach before you “undress” someone like that. Imagine UAB going from Bill Clark to this. Dilfer is a blowhard and a clown hire.
