Jake’s Gambling Pit: Week 8

2023 Season Record: 14-14 (-.7Units)

We split last week, but this week we have some LOCKS.

Penn State +4 at Ohio State and Under 47

Penn State is 1-8 against the Buckeyes during the James Franklin era, but this may be the most complete team the Nittany Lions have ever had entering Columbus. The key to this game will be in the trenches. Look for Penn State’s edge rushers to get home and put significant pressure on McCord. For the Nittany Lions to win their offensive line will have to have some success on that rugged Buckeye interior. The safe bet is Under 47, but also pair that with Penn State +4. James Franklin hasn’t been able to win in Columbus, but his teams always cover.

Pitt at Wake Forest -1

The Demon Deacons are coming off a bad loss to Virginia Tech who has a nonexistent offense. Pitt is coming off of a big win over a ranked opponent in Louisville. This is a classic “let down vs get right” game. Christian Veilleux has been named the starter, and even though the offense looks better it is still trying to figure itself out. Take Wake at home, with Pitt having a hangover.

Utah at USC -7

This is my absolute lock of the week. Utah’s offense has been abysmal since Cam Rising’s injury. The Trojan’s are going to come out inspired because of the abuse they took last week against Notre Dame, and to avenge their Pac 12 Championship loss last season to the Utes. USC is eventually going to wear down Utah and win convincingly at home. Get this line NOW.
