Game 3 of 82 What We Learned: Houston Rockets Edition
While another loss on this young season piled on our record, not all was lost. Bad stretches by both teams really defined this game especially in the third quarter.
Jabari, Sengun, and Green all had respectable games as their slow starts (outside of Sengun) might begin to solve themselves.
Dillon Brooks seems to be the guy who is leaving it all on the floor and what does he get as a reward? He gets cooked by Steph in a viral clip that has been seen by tens of millions of people.
Damn. That’s life. What can you do?
Another positive spot in this one was definitely Amen Thompson. He looked much more confident out there and was working where needed. We won’t talk about that airball after a one shot heat-check though.

Coach Ime Udoka having to coach up the youth movement in defense/rotations is gonna be much tougher than expected. This is looking to be a long November, folks. Hopefully the squad will be able to bang out a couple of wins on this SEVEN game home-stand. Is this normal? Whew, that’s a lot of games.
The Rockets lost their 4th quarter momentum and turned a small lead in to a double-digit loss 106-95, making our record 0-3.
This simply cannot happen anymore.
Here’s what we learned:
Amen Thompson will be fine as long as he has those confident spurts where he doesn’t hesitate on shots/drives.
Jalen Green was fast as hell last night. Keep this going, please!
Fred VanVleet has got to figure it out. He looks beyond lost out there. Shoutout to him for taking accountability though, that’s something!
Asked Fred VanVleet about his offensive production tonight:

"I was sh*t. Sh*t. I was bad. You gotta be able to adjust, have counters. They were pressing up on me sending me to the rim. Didn't shoot the floater like I should've. Just wasn't good enough."

There has to be something going on. Cam Whitmore played ten minutes in the season opener, but it’s been crickets these last two games. Send him down to RGV next month if this lack of playing time continues. At 0-3, we have nothing to lose. Mix the young guys with the veterans and maybe, just maybe our youth will learn something from the game-time they experience.
The Rockets will have a two day break as we look forward to hosting the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. We will see y’all then. Game 3 of 82 what we learned: Houston Rockets edition.
