Baseball starts in April, you know this, I know this and so many generations of fans before us know this.
So when the Astros began the season on April 1, 2024, I couldn’t believe I was missing Opening Day for the first time in my life. A Monday night with ace Ronel Blanco on the bump vs. The Blue Jays and George Springer and I wasn’t there? Wild. Blasphemous. I will be better and grow from this.
Last week Ronel Blanco was still fighting for a spot on the roster and did not find out until Joe Espada took the ball from him after his last spring training start and let him know he made the squad. Very cool moment but an even cooler moment he welcomed his 2nd child on the very same day, chills.
So cool to know the exchange behind this 🫶🏼 https://t.co/CY1mmbOixc pic.twitter.com/fMqnWDL2Vc

We fast forward one week and go grab a lotto ticket Mr. Blanco, because he threw the clubs 17th no-hitter in such a dominant fashion that he barely broke a sweat. I kid, Blanco was dripping wet before he even got done with his bully. Was it the sweat or the devastating new changeup that stymied the Blue Jays? Let’s go the tape.
A Ronel Blanco masterpiece tonight!

RONEL BLANCO. NO HITTER.
A beautiful night of baseball, the offense racking up a 10 spot, Joe Espada’s first career win, JP3 BOOMBAH after 10 months, and King Tuck and Yainer back to back x2. Opening Day was beautiful. Own the moment.
