Philadelphia seemed to be the odd finalist among the potential landing spots for LeBron James in free agency alongside Cleveland and Miami. However, as reported by Shams and then confirmed by LeBron’s Twitter, he is indeed signing with the 76ers.

I admit LeBron spending his last years with Cleveland and Miami would’ve been poetic, but Philadelphia could be even better. What better way to end your long, storied career than to bring a championship to a franchise that hasn’t seen one since 1983? To help complete the process for Joel Embiid, who carried the team for most of a decade, and to be loved in another city.
He obviously has history with Cleveland and Miami, but can they make a true championship run? The Cavaliers are good but have weaknesses that were exposed in the playoffs. The Heat made a splash signing Giannis, but would they mesh well offensively? Do they have enough to contend truly?
Which leads to the Sixers. Philadelphia signed Jaylen Brown to the largest signing of the offseason to immediately make them contenders with two young stars and a former MVP center who has shown his dominance when healthy. Philadelphia looked to be the team that could dethrone the Knicks; now they are the favorite. If LeBron wants to win another ring, this was the right choice.
There is a catch. They need to win the whole thing. This is all moot if the Sixers can’t bring it all home. It’s a high-risk, high-reward situation for LeBron. A win could let him truly retire on top, but a loss will make this move look strange the farther we get from it.
