Everyone Needs to Watch Rutgers at Boston College

Rutgers playing at Boston College may not move the needle at first glance, but this matchup represents much more than just football. Friday is the anniversary of September 11th and will be Boston College’s “Red Bandana Game”. If you are not familiar, Boston College dedicates one game a year, usually around September 11th, to former BC Lacrosse player Welles Crowther. Crowther was given the moniker “The Man in the Red Bandana” after stories started to surface that he helped save 18 people during the terrorist attack. Being idenitfied only by his family heirloom, a red handkerchief. Unfortunately, Welles Crowther lost his life, staying inside the burning South Tower of the World Trade Center to save more people. ESPN did an excellent mini-documentary on it.

If that isn’t enough incentive to watch, the Eagles will square off against Rutgers. Rutgers is the closest FBS university to New York City, and many regard it as the city’s team. The Boston College atmosphere will be excellent and provide a touching tribute to an American hero.
