Tic Tac Toe, eight in a row for your Houston Astros

Breathe with me everyone. It’s not like this happens every year and this a complete one off. Your Houston Astros are warming up as the calendar flips over to the sorching, humid months of summer in Houston, Texas. Winners of their last nine games and now only trailing the Arlington team by 1 game after they were crowned division champions * let me check right here* in May.

We’re not even a full 60 game mickey mouse season in and the death and demise of the Houston Astros dynasty was coming. Yet, like every season that has come before, the Astros started slow and have turned it on. But I will give the pundits a little leash here due to The Face of the Franchise, Jose Altuve, starting the season banged and on the IL. Justin Verlander took 40 million from Uncle Cohen, LMJ was on the IL, Luis Garcia got Tommy, Jose Urquidy is on the shelf until ASB, Michael Brantley is fighting his shoulder injury and Jose Abreu is melting in front of our eyes. Woof that was a lot.

Winning Cures Everything

28-19.

Listing out all the bad and the mole hills that are mountains, I think everyone would take that record with winnable series in front of them in late May. You can only control what you can control and that is what the Astros have been doing while reinforcements get healthy and come back to the squad. With the bad there has been a ton of good. Yordan Alvarez is putting the league on notice that he is the most complete hitter since Prime Trout and he is doing it a level where the cusp of superstardom is right there on the precipice. Framber Valdez and Cristian Javier have combined for 3.1 bWAR and are anchoring a rotation that had Justin Verlander and PRIME Gerrit Cole yet just now an afterthought in the history of this dynasty. Maurcio Dubon, who was a punching bag for Astros twitter emerging as an ALL STAR utility man with a bWar of 1.5, Jake Meyers and Chas McCormick in a platoon split that would make other teams jealous as both are capable starters in the bigs. Bregman and Tucker doing their thing, and JP France and Brandon Bielak eating innings and giving you a chance to hand it off to the best bullpen in baseball.

It’s only May, your defending champions are just starting to get going, this summer will be fun you can bet on it.
