Dylan Hernández of the LA Times wrote an article about the Dodgers hiring a video guy from the 2018 Red Sox. Are we still talking about sign stealing scandals? We’re in the year 2023, and it appears we are still going to be talking about them.
Us Astros fans have been through the ringer with this storyline. In 2020, the team nearly made the World Series after falling short in game seven of the ALCS in the bubble. 2021, the haters were still alive and well, but the boys made the World Series. They ultimately fell short after Jorge Soler’s homer left orbit over the train tracks. Finally, 2022 happens, and the Astros are two-time World Series champs, but we’re still going on about what happened nearly six years ago?
In Hernández’s article, he writes, “‘No matter what enhancements technology had back then, there needs to be a clear distinction between what the Astros did and what everybody else did,’ Kershaw said.
In other words: Who cares?”
Clayton, sir, would you step over here for just a second, please? Technology being used to steal signs is the EXACT same as what the Astros and most of MLB did during the time. Let’s be real for a minute. Maybe have some wherewithal?
Essentially, the article says some more mumbo jumbo about how everyone is cool with sign stealing, and everyone involved with it, except for any person with any affiliation with the Houston Astros. It’s a smear campaign, which we’ve all known for the last few years.
The discussion, stories, and books that are coming out about the Houston Astros of that time are getting old so incredibly quick. Baseball is cheating. Cheating is baseball. It’s been like this for over 100 years, why are we still getting upset about it?
If the Dodgers want to hire a guy that helped a team cheat in order to win a World Series, sure, I don’t care. Let’s just not act like the Astros were the only team doing anything during the wild west of MLB was a free reign for every team, including the Yankees. Even though the Yankees couldn’t win anything for the last decade plus.
Are we still talking about sign stealing scandals in the year of 2023? Be like Elsa and Let. It. Go.
